Kewadin Casino St. Ignace is one of five casinos that carry the Kewadin name. All five are owned by the Sault Ste. Marie Tribe of Chippewa Indians, and they are located in Michigan’s Upper Peninsula.

On this page, we’ve provided information visitors to Kewadin Casino St. Ignace will want to know, including what forms of gambling are available, dining and entertainment options, and casino contact information.

Located just across the Mackinac Bridge coming into the U.P., Kewadin Casino opened in St. Ignace, MI in 1987. It was the second Kewadin location opened by the Sault Tribe after the Sault Ste. Marie property opened in 1985.

Because it opened before the Indian Gaming Regulatory Act (IGRA), the Tribe did not require gubernatorial approval to set up the casino. This proved fortuitous, as three of the other Kewadin properties had to clear significant legislative hurdles for construction, and several other attempts to establish casinos in Lansing were unsuccessful.

From 2000 to 2008, the Tribe also held an ownership stake in the Greektown Casino, but after filing for bankruptcy protection on that property, it instead focused on Upper Michigan gaming.

Today, Kewadin Casino hosts several hundred electronic slot and video poker machines while offering table games on a limited basis.
